Concept

« A tool box to map concepts »
Alberto Canas,
director IHMC project Concept Map
Freeware developed by the researchers of the University
of West Florida (United States). It makes possible the creation
of concept maps that can be published on the Web. NASA set a good
example of such creation when it mapped, using this tool, the
knowledge acquired thanks to the Mars mission program.

Kartoo
France
« We developed a product
allowing non-expert Internet users to explicit their thinking »
Nicolas Baleydier,
Kartoo cofounder
Meta-search engines presenting the results of his
research work in a map form highlighting the relational terms
between replies. The spatial representation of the results allows
for a more intuitive approach with no need to use boolean operators.

Human
Links France
« Instead of asking everybody,
we look for the person who knows the answer »
Olivier Nérot,
Amoweba cofounder
Mutualization tools for information research results,
designed by Amoweba, allowing for a first answer to the main problem
related to any Internet search: how to manage a research result
that directs to ten million pages? The principle is based upon
mutualizing the individual searches made on Internet with an interface
allowing for the to organization of the results in a mapping presentation.

Navagent-
Surf3D United States
« This tool shortens
by 80 % the time it takes to search information on Internett »
(Navagent
designers)
Research tool for 3D visualization of results.
Although not really intuitive, the graphical interface of this
application is certainly one of the most spectacular in the market.

TWiki
United States
« TWiki makes it possible
for each of us to modify the contents of a Web site, with no webmaster
intervention, directly from our navigator »
Peter Thoeny,
Twiki designer
Open source wiki application allowing for Web pages
editing and modification from a Web navigator. Used by large corporations
(Inktomi, Disney, Motorola, SAPƒ) to simplify large intranet updating.

Php
Wiki United States
« I set up a few while working
at the New York Times on the Web, ... They wrote 500 pages in
just a few months »
Steve Wainstead, Php
Wiki designer
This may sound rather simplistic, but a Wiki is
a very unique way to collaborate on the Web. I set up a few while
working at the New York Times on the Web, and the technical staff
really took to them in a big way. They wrote 500 pages in just
a few months (all to document the internal systems).

Jabber
United States
« People talk. Talking is
how we learn, how we share knowledge, how we connect with others.
And most of that talking takes place not randomly but in the form
of conversations. »
Jeremie Miller, founder
of Jabber
Worldwide, it is estimated that there are more
than 7 million users of Jabber for instant communications.
Jabber is an open XML protocol for the real-time exchange of messages
and presence between any two points on the Internet. The first
application of Jabber technology is an asynchronous, extensible
instant messaging platform, and an IM network that offers functionality
similar to legacy IM systems. Decentralized, anyone can run their
own Jabber server, enabling individuals and organizations to take
control of their IM experience.
