During the 7th and 12th centuries, it was the practice of scraping writing off parchment, or washing papyrus, in order to replace classical texts by theological writings, that was called palimpsest.

« Creation is a palimpsest through which one deciphers God »

     Victor Hugo

RU3 project proposes an operation model based upon an application of the palimpsest effect (1).

The designers of neuronal networks use the palimpsest effect in the following technique: when neuronal connections involved in the process of memorization are not periodically reactivated, these liaisons are reused to store other data. This principle is integrated as a fundamental concept in the RU3 model of intelligent network. The access paths to the most used pieces of information are the most redundant. The paths leading to obsolete pieces of information, or to dead ends, erase themselves off the collective memory.

(1) Model proposed by Véronique Perdereau, research director at «Laboratoire des Instruments et Systèmes d’Ile-de-France, université Pierre et Marie Curie de Paris, France».
